Class of 2022 Senior Awards Night

Welcome: Dr. Matt Lan

Dr. Matt Lan is a graduate of the Class of 2013 at CSW and grew up in nearby Hockessin. While at Charter, he was involved in Science Olympiad, Math League, Science Ambassadors, and Student Council, for which he served as Senior Class President. He still has very fond memories of the annual ski trips planned by the Messingers and making “10 Minutes” videos with his fellow Student Council members, as well as the drama of planning Homecoming and Prom. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 2017 with a B.A. in Biochemistry and Economics as well as an M.S. in Chemistry. Matt then went straight to medical school at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, graduating recently with his M.D. in 2021. He came back closer to home after matching into the Neurosurgery residency program at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he is currently finishing his first year of residency and will (hopefully) graduate in 2028. He credits Charter for fostering his love of science and medicine as well as his interest in neuroscience when he took the Neuroscience elective class in his senior year.

Guest Speaker: Lieutenant Hunter Warren

Lieutenant Hunter Warren is a native Delawarean and 2008 graduate of The Charter School of Wilmington.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree with Honors and a commission as a Coast Guard officer from the United States Coast Guard Academy in 2012.  Upon commissioning, until 2017, he deployed worldwide as a Deck Watch Officer and Law Enforcement Boarding Officer aboard Coast Guard Cutter RESOLUTE, homeported in St. Petersburg, Florida, and later as the Officer-in-Charge of Law Enforcement Detachment 404, an advanced interdiction team assigned to Tactical Law Enforcement Team South in Miami, Florida.  Lieutenant Warren’s other assignments include Coast Guard Desk Officer at the Department of Homeland Security’s National Operations Center, Command Duty Officer in the Coast Guard National Command Center in Washington, DC, and most recently as a leader of counternarcotics, counterterrorism, and maritime security operations for Sector Delaware Bay, headquartered in Philadelphia.
