A Scoreboard for Liz
On October 2, 2010, we lost a beloved senior at The Charter School of Wilmington, Elizabeth Rada.
Elizabeth, 17, passed away from complications of osteosarcoma (bone cancer) and secondary leukemia, after being diagnosed four years ago.
Elizabeth, who was affectionately known as “Liz” by her friends, loved softball and was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Liz was an outstanding softball player in elementary school, but didn’t get the chance to play at CSW because of her illness. Instead, she became the manager for our girls’ softball team for the past four years. Even when Liz wasn’t feeling well, she was on the sidelines never letting her team down. She was brave, inspiring and her enthusiasm was contagious.
On June 1, 2012, a ceremony was held to dedicate the a new softball scoreboard to Elizabeth and was attended by her parents, brother, family members and the Charter community. Guests wore their purple “Live Like Liz” shirts for the ceremony.
